“Brizo is a simple yet innovative approach to hull cleaning…”
MarineProductReviews.com recently discovered the Brizo from Hullmate. Brizo is a unique and innovative product that addresses a problem encountered by every boater…maintaining a clean hull. There is nothing else like it out there. Brizo is very easy and effective.
Brizo takes a simple yet innovative approach by letting you clean the bottom of your boat without either diving on your hull or hauling your boat. Hullmate has developed a buoyant hull cleaning head attaches to a sturdy but light-weight telescoping handle. The cleaning head uses a proprietary buoyant system to maintain an even pressure against the hull to clean algae and slime off your hull quickly and easily. All you have to do is position it and swipe the hull. That’s it.
You use Brizo from either a dock or your tender, moving along your boat. View the video below to see the technique and how easy it is. The length of Brizo can be easily adjusted to accommodate different boat sizes and areas of your boat. Once you get the hang of Brizo, it will take roughly 15 minutes to clean the hull of a 35’ boat. The Brizo is also designed to clean keels and rudders, but requires a slightly different technique from the hull. Still simple but will just require a bit more practice.
If you have ever tried to dive on your boat to clean the hull (as I have!), you will find this much easier. If you have either hired divers or hauled your boat mid-season to clean the hull, you will find this far more cost effective.
The benefits of maintaining a clean hull are that your boat will be more responsive, fuel efficient and faster! So, whether you are a racer looking to tenths of knots or a cruiser looking for better fuel efficiency and handling Brizo will help. If used 1 time each month, HullMate suggests that Brizo will restrict slime growth, algae growth and even animal fouling including barnacles.
The telescoping handle of Brizo is long enough to clean boats from 24-60 feet in length. Once you are done, you simply collapse Brizo and store in your cockpit locker or garage. The foams supplied with the Brizo should last for the entire season depending on the frequency of use, and the cleanliness of your hull when you start using Brizo.
The Brizo is comes with different soft and hard grades of foam to accommodate different types of bottom paint. You will use the softer cleaning foam for soft anti fouling paint and the harder foam for harder paints.
It os expected that one cleaning foam head will last a season (~6months with monthly cleanings) and they can be reordered from the HullMate website (www.hullmate.com) for 19gbp
If you have ever spent the time or money to clean your hull each season (or, if you don’t but wish you did!), Brizo is definitely a product that you should check out. At only 195gbp, Brizo will pay for its self in the first season and will help you get better performance, efficiency and enjoyment from your boat.
