Gill has completely re-done one of their most popular sailing jackets. Gill has replaced the Key West with the new Gill OS2 foul weather jacket which is an excellent year round coastal cruising or offshore foul weather jacket. We recently had the chance to check out this new jacket and were very impressed. It has the outstanding function and comfort that Gill has become known for in the boating community. One of the things we like most about Gill foul weather gear is the quality and comfort of their outer shell. They are breathable, water proof and both feel and look good.
The Gill OS2 foul weather jacket is made from Gill's 3 Dot™ waterproof & breathable - 2 layer fabric. It also has fully taped seams that provides for a waterproof (and windproof) seal. The OS2 has water resistant YKK zippers that are easy to grab as well as a high collar that offers great wind, rain and spray protection. The collar is well lined so that it is comfortable against your face. Something you will appreciate on a cold wet day. Like other Gill foul weather jackets, this includes a great 3-way adjustable hood for added comfort on stormy days. It's great when you need it and zips into the collar when you don't. The adjustable cuffs and PU inner seals along with the double storm flap also help the Gill OS2 great water tight performance and comfort.
In terms of comfort and function, the Gill products are hard to beat and the OS2 foul weather jacket is no exception. The OSJ jacket has amply sized cargo pockets that are easy to access even with gloves and they are large enough to stow a handheld GPS, VHF or hand bearing compass. The pockets are fleece lined for added warmth and comfort and there are zippered internal pockets perfect for keeping a phone.
The Gill OS2 foulweather jacket also has some excellent safety features including a high visability reflective areas, important for night or MOB situations. The OS2 also has life jacket attachment facilities.
Last but definitely not least, the Gill OS2 looks and feels great. It's a jacket that you won't have any problem wearing ashore once to pull into a harbor and the two layer microporous fabric is soft to the touch and it allows a full range of comfortable motion. It has a great mesh lining that breathes well and works perfectly with layers underneath. The OS2 from Gill is a outstanding foul weather jacket that is an excellent addition to the Gill line of products, and it comes in both men's and women's cuts. If you only have one foul weather jacket onboard, this is definitely one you should check out.
